What Rose Read in December

This Golden Flame by Emily Victoria

I loved this book! I thought that the world was built so well and it felt very real to me. The characters were well rounded and relatable. I loved Alix’s struggles and felt like I could see some of my own anxieties in him. This was a great book!

Take Back the Block by Chrystal D Giles

Giles does such a great job of building a story that you cannot put down. I loved reading along and seeing how this young boy made such an impactful change to his community. I can’t wait to read this to my kids.

The Obsession by Jesse Q Sutanto

The story kept me reading because I really wanted to see the main character succeed. I will say, that as someone who has suffered abuse in a relationship, it was triggering to read this book. The main character surprised me with her strength and some of her risky decisions but I was happy with the ending.

Clues to the Universe by Christina Li

I don’t read a lot of middle grade but this book was so cute. I really enjoyed the characters. They felt real and authentic. The story felt real and the stakes were high. I thought the ending was very heartwarming and this is a book that I would recommend to any middle-grader.

Alone by Megan E Freeman

This was the first novel that I’ve read in verse and wowza – it was amazing. Freeman’s poetry is so captivating and the story she builds is incredible. I couldn’t put this down and will be shouting about it from the rooftops.

Glimpsed by G.F. Miller

I LOVE this book. The premise is so smart and clever. I love seeing things from the perspective of the fairy godmother. The love story is so sweet and I read this book so fast because I just couldn’t wait to find out what happened.

The Truth About Keeping Secrets by Savannah Brown

You kind of question the mystery that the MC is focused on throughout the book but the author does a great job of teasing you as you read. I couldn’t put it down and needed to know what was going to happen to these characters.

The New Husband by D.J. Palmer

I really enjoyed this book even though I saw the twist coming from the very beginning. Regardless of that, I wanted to keep reading and see how it turned out! It was a great read and worth it in the end.

The Last Voyage of Poe Blythe by Allie Condie

I’m late to the Poe Blythe train but I am on it! I couldn’t put this book down. I was sucked in by Poe’s need for revenge and my need to know the truth about what was going on. With the drifters, the dredge and that Admiral. One of my favorites for sure!

In a Holidaze by Christina Lauren

I read this book because the main character is stuck reliving the same vacation over and over again. I happen to be drafting a book with a Groundhog Day like aspect so I was excited to get some romance and see how another author did this. I really enjoyed this romance, it was funny and so sweet.

Lightbringer by Claire Legrand

I had a hard time making it through this book because I hate endings. I was really sad to have this series come to an end because the two women at the center are some of the best characters I’ve ever read. Lightbringer did not disappoint as the finale to the Empirium Trilogy. Legrand wrote this whole book beautifully and the ending is still something that I think about.
