There have been so many great books this year.
It was hard to narrow down this list. I took a MAJOR break from reading between February and July due to the newest addition to my family. The first book that I read was Kingsbane by Claire Legrand but that one isn’t included in this Top 10 list because it came out in 2019.
So this is my top 10 favorite books that came out in 2020 (the weirdest year to date).
#1 Lightbringer by Claire Legrand
This series is one of my absolute favorites. I put off reading this book because I hate things ending. I’ve never even watched the finale of the Angel series because I just couldn’t take it. Legrand did an incredible job throughout the entire series but especially this last book. We really saw these characters pushed to their breaking points and I was in tears by the end. I will be rereading this many times over.
#2 The Other Mrs by Mary Kubica
Mary Kubica is the absolute best at twists. She has one in every book and the one in The Other Mrs blew me away. If you love a mystery that messes with your mind, this one is for you.
#3 I Hope You’re Listening by Tom Ryan
I’m such a sucker for teenage detectives and Ryan wrote one of my favorite ones. I devoured this book, which as an author feels so unfair, but as a reader is the best. Read this book NOW!
#4 Last Girls by Demetra Brodsky
Demetra Brodsky’s sophomore book was the perfect blend of doomsday prep, teenage love and incredible writing. I will read anything that she writes and you should do.
#5 Kingdom of the Wicked By Kerri Maniscalco
This book surprised me in the best way. I could not put it down! This book made me hungry for the delicious food that was inside. Everything about the world she created sucked me in and I didn’t want to say goodbye to one particular prince of hell.
#6 The Lucky Ones by Liz Lawson
This book tackles mental health issues so well. Lawson created two characters who I could see myself in and wanted to stay with. Please, do yourself a favor and read this book.
#7 A Good Girls Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson
Another great teenage detective book! I was so wrapped up in this one and cannot wait to get the sequel in my hands. Such a great read.
#8 The Night Swim by Megan Goldin
This adult mystery was so well woven together. There were two very similar mysteries at the center of it. I didn’t figure out the twist before the end of it which surprised me as a frequent reader of mysteries.
#9 Mr. Nobody by Catherine Steadman
Oh oh! This book sucked me in from the very first page. The mystery is so compelling and I needed to know what was going on. Steadman does a great job of creating characters that are flawed and who you doubt throughout the story. The twist was so good and I’ll keep raving about this book.
I loved Sara Shepards YA novels so I couldn’t wait to get my hands on her adult debut. This book did not disappoint. The characters are all so mysterious and somewhat terrible but you root for them regardless. You want to know who is telling the truth and who isn’t. This was a great mystery!
