I think most of us would say that we prefer to have control over what happens in our lives and our kids’ lives. I think the thing that is hardest for me is the lack of control that step-parents and parents in any divorced household have.
You can’t control the rules at their other house. You can’t control the chaos that enters your life because of what’s going on at that other house. It’s hard to control transition day. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So what can we control?
We can control the moments we have with them. The early mornings and the hours spent learning with them. We can control the time spent laughing and relaxing. We can only control what we can and that’s hard for me to wrap my head around.
But I try to remember that my influence, my time with them is worthwhile. Our days spent together matter. Even when it all feels out of my control.
